Global Connections
People may think their community and friends are people they've never met in person. Their way of spending time and community would be chat rooms and online gaming. It helps shape people's identity. Nowadays people are antisocial and into their technology more than talking to people face to face. To some people online activities mean more than talking to the people around them in their daily lives or in their community. We've responded to global issues. Governments, citizens and organizations joining together to help fight one of the biggest problems facing our world today which is climate change. Countries to the smallest towns are taking steps to make an impact on our world to fix the problem so it doesn't get worse. We need to balance out the two regarding media and everyday communications.
Human Rights and Democracy
The United Nations adapted the forgotten universal declaration of human rights in 1948. Declaring all humans are free and equal in dignity and rights. What I know about this issue is that back then many people didn't have rights especially women. Mostly the decimation between blacks and whites. Things like blacks couldn't go to the same school as whites and had to use different bathrooms. My opinion on this topic is that I feel like everyone should be treated equally and all have the same rights no matter of your race or colour. Also the aboriginals get pretty much everything handed to them and I'm not sure what makes them better than us average Canadians.
Global Citizen
A global citizen represents a legal status designated by a variety of documents like a Canadian passport, birth certificate or a statement of citizenship from the courts. As a global citizen you have rights and responsibilities. As an example a responsibility could be voting in elections and obeying Canada's laws. Rights could be freedom of speech, being able to enter and leave Canada and participate in political activities. You can take action by helping make small differences in your community to make it a better place like cleaning up garbage or volunteering. Also being an active consumer and help buy products with free trade logos. In my opinion I'm proud to be Canadian because we have many rights and pride in this country. Also it's a pretty great place to live in general. I'm also very happy that I have a good standard of living in Canada and in my home life.
What Globalization means to me
In my own words Globalization is the process of growing and expanding to exist throughout the entire world. I feel that Globalization can be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. I think this because some positives about it is that it's lead to better technology and transportation. It makes our everyday life's that much easier to communicate with people and to get around to places we need to go to. Negatives on why it can be bad because it's one of the reasons why climate change is one of the biggest issues the world has to face and it's just getting worse. It increases greenhouse gas emissions because now we have global trade and there's always planes, trucks and boats going everywhere in the world delivering and picking up goods. They all use gas and this happens 24 hours a day everyday. What we should do for the future generations is try to preserve the world's natural resources because you can't replace them. The future generations are going to need them to live a good life.
Quality Of Life
People are becoming more connected through media and technology which allows people to hear about news events and issues around the world much quicker. The internet is a important tool in the process of making global connections. The popularity of social network sites and blogs allows user to become aware of world events. Global awareness has affected gender issues by guaranteeing human rights for females, improving health care for women and girls. Many countries have tried to reduce the gender gap, economic social and political differences that separate women and men. My opinion is that technology is a great thing but at times we get to caught up and forget about more important things. It gets abused and used the wrong way at times. I like the idea that in just a few minutes you can find out from a news app on your phone what's going on in the world and that we have access to it. I'm glad to hear that countries are trying to be more fair to women and giving them the access to proper health care and that they get rights.
